Kadanë Dates and TimesSince the Kadanė world of Zyem is our world in an alternate universe, the day and year are of the same duration as our own. However, they divide them differently from us.DatesThe Kadanė nakwa 'year' is made up of 15 nakwizn 'months', of 24 days each. Since this totals only 360 days, they introduce five jojyom fimo 'Bridge Days' throughout the year. In leap years, a sixth Bridge Day is added.Year One in Kadanė reckoning dates from the legendary date of the founding of the Kadanė Empire, and is equivalent to our date of 715 C.E. The Kadanė year begins on March 21st, usually the first day of spring. Thus, the year 2003 C.E. corresponds to the Kadanė years 1287/1288. Each of the nakwizn is named for a god of the Kadanė pantheon. In addition, each month has a number name. The number names are used for civil purposes, and the divine names for everyday life. Each Bridge day also has a number and a popular name.
The Fifth and Sixth Bridge Days alternate in their observance in non-leap years; both are celebrated in leap years (which occur every 4 years, as in our calendar). Each nakwizn is divided into 3 jojtabj 'weeks' of 8 days each. For civil purposes, the weeks and days of the week are simply numbered. Each jojyom 'day' of the month also has a religious name. Since every day of the month has a different religious name, there is no need for popular week names.
Those dates when the month and day are dedicated to the same god are considered especially auspicious in the common mind, and are treated as minor religious festivals among the very pious. Times of the DayThe Kadanė divide the jojyom 'day' into 15 hubjyom, which is about 96 minutes long. The hubjyom is divided into 25 kavrizn, each about 3.5 minutes long. These are divided into the smallest of time units, the kavrizg. There are 125 kavrizg to a kavrizn; they are about 1.843 seconds long. The Kadanė day begins at dawn. More correctly, it begins at dawn on the first day of the year in the city of Fimo. In ancient times, each day really began at the local rising of the sun, but it has been standardized for centuries. The Kadanė day now begins at approximately 6 a.m. our time. To get a clear picture of the Kadanë year and day, you can download the following program (for Win 95/98/2000/XP). Unzip it and run Setup.exe to install it, and then run it
whenever you want to know the date or time on Zyem. The Kadanë also use the following terms when speaking of clock time:
