The Ninety-Nine QualitiesThe Ninety-Nine Qualities (sometimes Names) of the Gods is an ancient prayer, composed by Teacher Po from all the epithets for the gods contained in the Gatha vomathagazguduku and recorded by him in the Gatha poritaf. This list of qualities, or virtues, has become a central part of Kadane worship and ethics. It is recited at every Fire Sacrifice, and has an important place in personal prayer and organized cults. As a personal prayer, it can be recited on a string of beads, often printed with the Qualities. The New Thought Movement, which stresses social involvement and personal responsibility, sees the Qualities as the exemplar of virtue, and organizations such as the Perfect Freedom Society have developed Ways of personal growth based on the progressive internalization and embodiment of the Qualities. |
